Each week, I will look at the overall winning lineup for the main tournament on DraftKings. I will list key takeaways and any notable information that we can use going forward.

This lineup used $49,900 in salary and was duplicated just once. Sullybrochill took home a cool $65K.

The first thing that stands out to me about this team is the overall roster construction. Most weeks (this one included) we see the field gravitate to the mid-range fighters especially when you have a fight like Ibo Aslan vs Anton Turkalj that projects to score very well. By going with three expensive options up top, it prices you out of the mid-range entirely which made this lineup more unique in that sense.

They also avoided two very popular fights that ended up busting in Jacob Malkoun vs Andre Petroski (combined ownership 54%) and the above mentioned Aslan fight (combined ownership 60%). Our Ownership projections were spot on with how popular these fighters would be so being thoughtful about when to roster or how often made a ton of sense. This lineup strategically used roster construction to naturally fade most of those fighters which gave them big leverage over most of the field.

Aside from just a roster construction leverage strategy, they targeted Julio Arce up top who ended up being the pivot play in that range which somewhat surprised me to see him come in at just 13%. In hindsight, I should have been more thoughtful about his lack of recent production and the price point which clearly the field has hesitancy about.

Perhaps the biggest leverage point of this team was Kyle Nelson at just 6% coming through with a first-round win. This one I have mixed feelings about because I still believe Bill Algeo wins that fight at a very high clip and the stoppage was early. But knowing that Nelson’s win condition is an early KO, he should have been more of a priority for me as nobody wanted to play him this week – myself included.

Key takeaways:

Unique roster construction – avoided mid-range which was popular
Pivot play up top – Julio Arce
Leverage punt – Kyle Nelson
Leverage side of the main event – Manon Fiorot

Big congrats to SullyBroChill and best of luck to everyone next week!
